You can’t Stop the Beat!

Rhythm Class with Drumming Specialist Jimmy Robitaille

Fridays 4:15-5:00

Rhythm is the backbone of fundamental music. It is as important as any other element of music. As private teachers, we often find that our students don’t get the reinforcements needed to have a concrete understanding and feel for the rhythmic component in music. We also find that our private students often do ‘march to the beat of their own drum' and would often learn rhythm more concretely in a group environment. This class is for…. everyone!

Jump in with our rhythm specialist Jimmy as he makes rhythm fun again, building a class based on a ‘small percussion ensemble-like' feel. He will guide you through simple and complex rhythm reading and build your chops for sight reading rhythms!

Do you Hear what I HEAR?

Ear Training Class with Vocal Specialist Sarah Van Ells

Fridays 5:00-5:45

We currently have an incredible studio of young vocalists studying everyday- each week we check in as teachers and chat about what is fundamentally missing for some of our students. Rhythm and Ear training are the most repeated answers.

We will learn and review basics of reading music, as well as ear training through solfege.

This is a great class for any student who wants to improve their musicianship.

The key to being a great vocalist…has a keychain attached to it with many other very important keys! BUT this KEY is ear training…We often find students (even in the best music programs) are not studying ear training. We would love to unlock this essential key to our students earlier in their training… rather than not at all!

Ear training class is not exclusively for vocalist - it is recommended for instrumentalists as well. It is in fact required for all music majors in college!  So why not take it when you are 11, 13, 15, 17?

This class is a great opportunity for students of all ages and instruments to master these musical tools and take their creativity to the next level!

NLMA Songwriting Collective

Songwriting Class with Vocal Specialist Sara Holmes (assisted by Director John Wayno)

Fridays 6:00-6:45

As active songwriters we know how hard it is to write songs! As teachers we also know how difficult it is for some of our young students, who are aspiring artists or writers, to gain knowledge and valuable experience in getting to know their writing process.

The NLMA Songwriting Collective will be a space for students to create, share, and collaborate. Through the use of writing prompts and guided discussions, students will explore their own writing style using literary concepts such as persecutive and figurative language. Also explored in this class will be the identification of common tendencies in current songwriting and pop music. By studying songs, we will learn some of the techniques and tools used by current artists that make their music and writing unique and meaningful. The goal of the course is to build community and comfortability for students to begin or refine their own lyric writing process.

NOTE FROM DIRECTOR:

We are SO excited to start this new idea of hosting a specialized music curriculum alongside private lessons. Due to covid and happily meeting CDC requirements, most of these classes will host a cap of 8 students so please let me know ASAP if you'd like to enroll. I can't encourage enrolling enough. These classes are tailored to accompany private lessons and having your children enroll in one or more of these classes will allow for much more growth as a student of music. I'm so excited to see the growth in our students as well as see the growth of our programs offered over the year! Please help by signing up now! If you have any questions please don't hesitater to reach out!

Thank You
